An essay to describe how i accomplished a difficult task which requires a lots of hard work, determination and confidence
Answers
I didn't know what to do. I had a deadline of two days to finish the task put ahead of me. That means I have exactly 48 hours before I could do this. I thought I must've done it all when our teacher told us to study five long, hard chapters in three days. But this? The entire science textbook in two days? I am just a child, how can I do it?
At least, that's what I told myself.
I rushed back home, declining requests from my friends about hanging out in the park. Grumbling curses, I took a maximum of five minutes to refresh, eat lunch and change clothes before I shut the door to my room and spread out papers, pencils, pens, my notebook, my textbook and a rough book in front of me.
Before I knew it, my mom called for dinner. I looked out the window. The moon was shining brightly down at the world. It seemed cheerful, like it was mocking me for all the trouble I was put through. So much for a good weekend. All my other friends must be going out for dinner right now, while I am stuck in a den with nothing but stationary, a hopefully good memory and determination. My mom called again, snapping me out of my thinking. I ran downstairs and stuffed the food in my mouth. My (sibling's gender/dad) asked me what was wrong, and I shook my head, indicating nothing was wrong. I was way too stuffed to answer back.
I chugged down a glass of water and ran back upstairs, plopping down on my chair and occasionally pacing around the room muttering the answer I was trying to ace. Five lessons were down. Six more to go. I looked at my clock. It was 2:30 am. I shut my textbook. My eyes were weary, my head hurt and there was nothing else I would like to do than have a nice, long sleep until Sunday, which so happened to be today. I climbed into my bed and my eyes shut before I knew it.
The next morning, same day, same schedule, same stress. I studied and studied and studied until my family got worried. I didn't call any of my friends, which was unusual for me. When I finally finished the last six chapters, I could almost hear and opus behind me. It was 1:00 am. I rushed to bed, worrying about the test tomorrow.
This was it. The final day. I went into the examination room, trying to revise everything I learnt last night. I took deep breaths to calm myself down when I didn't know the answer to a question and it wasn't on Multiple Choice Questions. I handed in my paper, beaming at how well I did. When everyone in class were talking about answers that were wrong, I was the one who corrected them.
When I came to school the next day, everyone congratulated me. Frowning with curiosity, I ran to the results that were pinned up on the board. Yes! I passed with an outstanding mark of 99.5/100! My classmates cheered and whooped for me when I stepped into the classroom. And that, my friends, is how hark work, determination and confidence will help you get through anything.

Self-assessment
Essays, the most difficult task for me to accomplish in my English class, are also the most important factor to improve my literacy. Although essays can be difficult to write, I believe that it can assist me to a better understanding as a reader, writer, critical thinker, and a communicator. School is the place where I first learned to engage in all of the four elements- reading, writing, critical thinking, and communicating. Students who participate in writing essays throughout their school life improve as they move along. As for me, my reading and critical thinking skills are not improving much. Knowing that teachers can not always assist me, I believe I should read more novels and ask myself questions. School may not only be the place where I can develop my literacy. Homeschooling myself about the how to work cite sources, do my own research on how well an essay should be written, and do reading on my own is a great way to start myself off. Eighth grade was when I was truly given an essay rubric on how an essay should be written. This was one of the most important moments in my development from knowing nothing to a beginner.
To begin, reading, writing, and critical thinking may seem very easy to others whereas for me, it is arduous. Reading everyday as an assignment for my eighth grade English class has really given me the opportunity to improve myself. Reading really helps me engage in unknown words. Even though I read everyday for that time, my critical thinking skills were always basic. Knowing so, before writing essays, brainstorming bubble maps was one way that brought me one step closer to starting. Brainstorming helps me combine school-related and non-school related ideas together. Not only has brainstorming helped, but also rubrics that assisted me step by step the correct way on how an essay should be written. From rubrics to color coding elements needed for a well written essay, has really made me focused on the important details an essay should include. Writing essays allows me to read the prompt, brainstorm about what to write, and then write. As for the communication part, peer editing will allow us to communicate on the corrections needed to be revised.
Furthermore, online research brings me to study and do better. For example, I search and read through what a well written essay should be like. I usually notice something that the writers have that I do not have. I tell myself I should follow this writer’s example. Doing so shapes my perspective of how I should write. In addition, reading on my own free time would let me discover new words at the same time better my reading skills. Work citing indicates that the correct way to write an essay using outside source is a need. It is a professional and correct way to give credit to whom ever I obtain my information from. If there is a way, I can rephrase everything in my own words but nevertheless have to quote it. This requires thinking of how to paraphrase it in a way that I’m not plagiarizing.
Although my literacy is not perfect and well, I believe with more practice I can develop a better understanding of the four elements. I am striving to obtain more knowledge on critical thinking and writing skills needed for a college- level writer. This essay has really made me think a lot for what to write, I believe I learned some things by writing this. I know school is the number one place where I can demonstrate my literacy better than anywhere else. Continuing on to college, I am sure the four elements would be more understanding to me then than it is now.
