Answer:
Aim: To show the existence of atmospheric pressure (collapsing tin can experiment).
Things Needed: A tin can, a cork,a Bunsen burner, a tripod stand , some water and a matchbox.
Method:
1.Take a thin-walled empty tin can. For an empty can,the aur pressure inside and outside the can is the same. Pour some water into the can.
2. Heat the tin can by using a Bunsen burner till the water taken beings to boil and stream is formed . The stream expels all the air from the can. When water is boiling, there is no air inside the can,the whole can is filled with stream.
3.Fit a tight cork on the mouth of the can and stop heating. Now, pour cold tap water on the hot can.
Observation: you will find that on pouring tapwater, the tin can cruses inwards as if a large force is acting on it from outside.
Explanation:
Discussion: When water changes into steam, the steam pressure inside the can is equal to the atmospheric pressure outside the can. But, when cold water is poured on the can,it condenses the stream stream inside it. As a result, the pressure inside the can decreases.
