length

of the train = 240 m

speed of the train = 108 km/hr

since the distance is in metre so speed should be converted in m/s

speed in m/s =

 = 108 \times \frac{1000m}{3600s} = \\ 108 \times \frac{5}{18} \\ = 6 \times 5 \\ = 30

30m/s.

when the train crosses a pole or a person the length of the train is considered as distance.

so time taken to cross the platform is

 = \frac{d}{t} \\ = \frac{240}{30} \\ = 8 \: sec \:

8 seconds
