Though, every element on earth contracts or it's density increases when it is cooled. But water shows an unique property sometimes also known as anomalous behaviour of water. Which means unlike other elements, the maximum density of water is at 4 degree Celsius. If further cooled, it starts to expand resulting it the increase of density. So it can be concluded that the water level will decrease if the ice melts unless it goes above 4 degree Celsius.
