An IGCSE class is making school flags and T-shirts to sell the raise funds for the school. Due to time constraints, the class is able to make at most 150 flags and 120 T-shirts. The fabric is donated and they have enough to make 200 items in total. A flag sells for $2 and a T-shirt sells for $5. How many of each item should they make to maximise their income from sales?

Given : An IGCSE class is making school flags and T-shirts to sell the raise funds for the school.

Due to time constraints, the class is able to make at most 150 flags and 120 T-shirts.

The fabric is donated and they have enough to make 200 items in total.

A flag sells for $2 and a T-shirt sells for $5.

To Find : How many of each item should they make to maximise their income from sales

Solution:

F + T  ≤  200

F  ≤   150

T   ≤   120

Profit =  5T + 2F

Hence T shirt should be maximum

=> T = 120   => F = 80

Hence profit

= 5 (120) + 2(80)

= 600 + 160

= 760

120 T shirts  and 80 Flags
