Here,
insect climb up in 1 second = 2 cm
insect slips down in next second = 1 cm
so ,
distance travelled by him in 2 seconds = 1 cm
or,
time taken to climb 1 cm = 2 second
so,
time taken to climb 15 cm = 2*15
= 30 seconds.

Answer:

30 seconds will the insect take to reach the top of the rod 15 cm high.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : An insect climb 2 cm up a slippery rod in one second and slips down by 1 cm over the next second.

To find : How many second will the insect take to reach the top of the rod 15 cm high?

Solution :

In 1 second an insect climb up 2 cm.

In next second an insect slips by 1 cm.

Total distance covered in 2 seconds is 2-1=1 cm.

We have to find in how many second will the insect take to reach the top of the rod 15 cm high.

i.e. An insect take to climb 1 cm distance = 2 seconds

An insect take to climb 15 cm distance = 15\times 2 seconds

An insect take to climb 15 cm distance = 30 seconds.

Therefore, 30 seconds will the insect take to reach the top of the rod 15 cm high.
