An object dropped from a certain height reaches the ground in 1 second. Assuming there is no gravity, with what velocity (m/s) must the object be thrown so that it takes the same time to reach the ground? (Acceleration due to gravity=10m/s^2)

Let h be the height of the object.

By Newton's 2nd law of kinematics,

s = ut + 1/2 at^2

h = 0×1 + 1/2 × 10 × 1^2

h = 5 m

When there's no gravity, velocity of throwing object need to be -

v = h / t

v = 5 / 1

v = 5 m/s

Therefore, the object need to be thrown with velocity of 5 m/s.
