let the distance from x to y be s.
then displacement=S-S=0

let the time of travel from x to y be T1 and from y to x be T2.

average speed=total distance travelled/time taken to travel the distance
=S+S/T1+T2
=2S/T1+T2

Displacement is the distance between initial point to final point But the initial point and the final points are same Hence, D= 0. Average speed =distance travelled / time. hence avg speed=xy plus yx/ t. = 2xy /t
