Answer:

Weight of object:-

1)On moon it will be 1/4 of Earth's gravity.

i.e. 72/4 = 18 Kg

2)On Earth it will be 72 Kg.

As, mass is inherent property so it will remain unchanged.

An object has 72 kg mass on Earth's surface.

We have to find its weight in

(i) Moon's and

(ii) Earth's surface.

To find also the mass of object on Moon's surface.

" acceleration due to gravity on Moon's surface is 1/6 of acceleration due to gravity on Earth's surface."

we know, the acceleration due to gravity on Earth's surface is nearly 10 m/s².

∴ the acceleration due to gravity on Moon's surface = 10/6 = 1.67 m/s².

here you should remember that the mass of any object always remains same, it can be changed.

the mass of object on Earth's surface = mass of object on Moon's surface.

(i) weight of object in Moon's surface = mass of object × acceleration due to gravity on Moon's surface

= 72 Kg × 1.67 m/s²

= 120.24 N

(ii) weight of object on Earth's surface = mass of object × acceleration due to gravity

= 72 Kg × 10 m/s²

= 720 N

we already explained the mass of object on Moon's is as same as that of Earth's surface.

hence, the mass of object on Moon's surface is 72 Kg.
