Given:

  • Object distance = 10 cm
  • Focal length = 5cm
  • Mirror is concave

To find:

Image distance & nature of image ?

Calculation:

Applying MIRROR FORMULA (with sign conventions):

 \dfrac{1}{f}  =  \dfrac{1}{v}  +  \dfrac{1}{u}

 \implies \dfrac{1}{ - 5}  =  \dfrac{1}{v}  +  \dfrac{1}{ - 10}

 \implies  - \dfrac{1}{  5}  =  \dfrac{1}{v}   -  \dfrac{1}{  10}

 \implies   \dfrac{1}{v}    =  \dfrac{1}{  10}  -  \dfrac{1}{5}

 \implies   \dfrac{1}{v}    =  \dfrac{1 - 2}{  10}

 \implies   \dfrac{1}{v}    =  \dfrac{ - 1}{  10}

 \implies \: v =  - 10 \: cm

So, image is located 10 cm in front of mirror.

Now, image is :

  • Real, inverted and equal in size as that of the object.

  • Image is formed at the centre of curvature of the mirror.

Hope It Helps.
