An object is placed at a distance of 30 cm in front of a convex lens of focal length 10cm. A concave lens is placed coaxially at opposite side of the object at a distance of 10 cm from the convex lens of focal length of the concave lens is 8 cm determine the position of the image from the concave lens.

Explanation:

Location of image formation after first refraction from the lens,

v

1

+

60

1

=

30

1

.

This gives v=60cm

Next refraction from concave lens,

v

2

1

40

1

=−

120

1

Hence v

2

=60cm

Since this will be formed behind the mirror, this will be final image.

It is at a distance of 60cm from the concave lens.
