An object of height 6cm is placed at a distance of 30cm in front of a mirror of radius of curvature 60cm. Calculate
position and size of image if the mirror is-(i) concave mirror and (ii) convex mirror. Give ray diagram for each case too.

Answer:

(i) for Concave mirror

Position of image (v)=Infinity

Size= Highly Enlarged

(ii) for Convex mirror

position of image (v)= 15Cm

Size= Diminished (small)

Explanation:

(i) For Concave mirror

Given h = 6cm, u = -30cm

for concave mirror R= -60cm

w.k.t R= 2f so f= -30cm

by using mirror formula 1/f= 1/v+ 1/u

1/-30= 1/-30+ 1/v

1/v =0

v= 1/0

v=infinity

Size of the image = Highly Enlarged

(ii) for Convex Mirror

Given h = 6cm, u = -30cm

for convex mirror R= +60cm

w.k.t R= 2f so f= +30cm

by using mirror formula 1/f= 1/v+ 1/u

1/+30= 1/-30+ 1/v

1/v= 1/30+1/30

1/v= 2/30

1/v= 1/15

v = +15cm

So image is formed at a distance of 15cm from the pole and it is formed in between P and F
