Given, F = - 500 N (-ve for retardation)
m = 10kg
u = 500 m/s
v = 0
Since, F = ma
Therefore, a = F/m
a = -500/10
a = -50 m/s²
Now, using v = u + at
Therefore, t = v - u/a
t = 0 - 500/ -50
t = -500/-50
t = 10s
So,
Time at which it will come to rest is 10 seconds.
