Explanation:

A woodcutter was busy cutting wood in a forest. Suddenly his axe fell into the pond nearby. He tried his best but his efforts were in vain.

He could not retrieve his axe. The woodcutter was very sad and started crying.

The axe was his sole means of livelihood. The thought made him even more sad.

An angel saw this and asked him what the matter was.

The woodcutter said,” Oh! What can I say? I have lost my only source of livelihood. How am I going to feed my family now?” and started crying again.

The angel took pity on him and said, ‘Don’t worry, I will give you an axe.”

So, saying the angel removed a golden shining axe and gave it to the woodcutter.

The woodcutter had one look at it and started sobbing again saying it wasn’t his axe.

The angel then showed him a silver axe. The wood cutter shook his head and said it wasn’t his.

The angel then brought out an iron axe and gave it to the woodcutter. The woodcutter’s eyes glistened with joy and he happily took the axe from the angel after thanking the angel profusely.

The angel was so happy to see the honesty of the woodcutter that she gave him all the three axes as a reward for his honesty.

The moral of the story is, ‘Honesty always pays.’
