Answer:

The loss in the kinetic energy is 32 J.

Explanation:

Given;-

   Mass of 1st body , m₁ = 80 kg

Mass of 2nd body, m₂ = 20 kg

    Velocity of 1st body , u₁ = 2 m/s

    Velocity of 2nd body, u₂ = 4 m/s

So, relative velocity, u = 4 - 2 = 2 m/s

Now, we know that for an inelastic collision the loss in the kinetic energy is given by ;-

      Δ K.E. = 1/2 × (m₁m₂) × u²/ ( m₁ + m₂)

Putting the given values in the formula, we get;-

     Δ K.E. = 1/2 × 20 × 80 × 2²/ 100

     Δ K.E. = 800/ 100 × 4

     Δ K.E. = 8 × 4

   Δ K.E. = 32 J

Hope it helps! ;-))
