The old person is suffering from both: short-sightedness(myopia) and far-sightedness(hyperopia).

He is suffering from myopia, a condition in which a person is unable to see nearby objects. It is also called near-sightedness .

If your 'distinct' means far away objects, then he's suffering from hyperopia( far-sightedness).
