Food security of a nation is wherein all citizens have adequate nutritious food available, all people are able to obtain food that is of an appropriate quality, and there is no impediment to obtaining food, the welfare of a nation is guaranteed..
Explanation:
- Uttar Pradesh: UP has repeatedly fail to ensure food security amidst rising hunger. There are several villages that are on the verge of starvation as it struggles to provide the most impoverished people with the public distribution system. Or, the last mile of service is not assured.
- Bihar: The state has has the highest number of people not getting benefits under the "National Food Security Act (NFSA)" for want of ration cards,
- Punjab: Punjab now finds itself facing economic & environment crisis. Rather than providing badly needed solace, the state is being curtly asked to fend for itself. The state is found to be the most food insecure region
- West Bengal: West Bengal is one of the food producing states, particularly rice. Because of such conservative policies, the state has achieved remarkable growth in agriculture. The West Bengal administration has ensured that 90 % of the populace of Bengal get of rice and wheat at a subsidized rate of Rs 2/-. At half the market price about 50 lakh or more people will get the same.
- Maharashtra: The Food Security Act protects almost 7 crores of Maharashtra's beneficiaries. Two thirds of the population have a legal right to highly subsidized food grains. However there are discrepancies based on caste & gender. They are being denied access, production & consumption of food because of various discrimination levels is an oppressive reality in India.
- Kerala: The public distribution network in Kerala is universal and has played an important role in guaranteeing food security to most of its people. However there remains certain challenges with regard to food security. Kerala faces serious food security challenges with its rapidly growing gap of production requirements, that is, food crops are dropping sharply and highly profitable crops like rubber, cocoa & coffee are being allowed to take over.
- Orissa: The food insecurity of Orissa is serious. The farmers of Orissa are well known not to be privileged. What is uncertain is, however, that their suffering has been significantly exacerbated. " Acute food insecurity" is a result of the drastic decreased production growth rate in the major crops, which has been shown in the recent survey by researchers from the Orissa Agriculture Technology University
