Dear Teachers,
Teaching is hard. I feel as if you don’t get recognized enough for all the hard work your job entails, and you surely don’t get paid enough. It takes a certain person to remain passionate about teaching in a country where we’re renown for having one of the worst education systems when compared to other developed countries. It’s those teachers with a mission to change this statistic that have inspired me and they deserve the upmost respect.
After reflecting on my educational experience, I realized how powerful a teacher's influence can be on a student. A teacher has the ability to completely change a student's life, and not all teachers remain passionate enough about their career to take full advantage of this. Some teachers are there for the paycheck but thank you to the others who have used your influence for good.
The job title of a teacher does not mean you are required to be there and care for your students as your own kids, but there are teachers that care enough to do just that. Those are the teachers that have inspired me to become a teacher myself, and use my influence for good. No one asked my teachers to be empathetic when things at home got hectic. No one asked my teachers to help me out when I was dealing with medical problems. No one asked my teachers to become my friends, mentors or role models, but now they are some of the best I have.
These teachers I have referred to truly understand the mindset of their students and how they learn best. They didn't have us read from a textbook to memorize information to regurgitate it on a test, then forget it the next day. These teachers truly cared about the expansion of knowledge and the importance of education. These teachers understood that the ability to get an education was a privilege so they taught in the best possible way.
So thank you to those who are passionate enough to care about your students, thank you to those who are willing to put in the extra hours selflessly, thank you to those who have inspired me to impact others as you have impacted me.
Thank you to the best teachers I could have asked for.
