Hi there,

Given:

☆ C=40%

☆ H=13.33%

☆ N= 46.67%

☆ Mwt of C = 12

☆ Mwt of H= 1

☆ Mwt of N= 14

■ calculat the no of moles which is atom percentage ÷ atomic mass

♤ n of C = 40÷12 = 3.33 mol

♤ n of H = 13.33÷1 = 13.33 mol

♤ n of N = 46.67 ÷ 14 = 3.33 mol

■ calculat the molar ratio by dividing over the lowest number of moles for all atoms which is 3.33

◇ C ratio = 1

◇ H ratio = 13.33÷3.33 = 4

◇ N ratio = 1

■ the empirical formula is CH4N

finding empirical formula-:

C  = 40 \\  \\ 12 \frac{40}{12}  = 3.33 \\   \\  \\ \frac{3.33}{3.33}  = l

H \: = \: 13.33 \\ \\ 1 \frac{13.33}{1} \\ \\ = 13.33 \\ \\ \frac{13.33}{3.33} \\ \\ = 4

N \: = 46.67 \\ \\ 14 \frac{46.67}{14} \\ \\ = 3.33 \\ \\ \frac{3.33}{3.33} = l

thurs the empirical formula of the compound is" CH4N "
