An organic compound ’X’ on heating with cone. H2S04 forms :1 compound ’Y' which on addition of one molecule of hydrogen in the presence of nickel forms a compound ’2'. One molecule of compound ’2' on combustion forms two molecules of CO2 and three molecules of H20. Identify giving reasons the compounds ’X', 'Y' and ’2'. Write the chemical equations for all the chemical reactions involved.

Compound Y => Ethene

Compound Z => Ethane

● Explaination -

Combustion of Z gives 2 CO2 and 3 H2O molecules, hence compound Z must be ethane.

CH3-CH3 + 3.5O2 --> 2CO2 + 3H2O

Ethane is obtained by reduction of ethene with Ni/H2. Hence, compound Y is ethene.

CH2=CH2 + H2 --> CH3-CH3

Ethene is obtained by adding conc.H2SO4 to ethanol.

CH3-CH2-OH --> CH3=CH2 + H2O
