An organic compound ’X’ on heating with cone. H2S04 forms :1 compound ’Y' which on addition of one molecule of hydrogen in the presence of nickel forms a compound ’2'. One molecule of compound ’2' on combustion forms two molecules of CO2 and three molecules of H20. Identify giving reasons the compounds ’X', 'Y' and ’2'. Hello Students,
◆ Answer -
Compohnd X => Ethanol
Compound Y => Ethene
Compound Z => Ethane
● Explaination -
Combustion of Z gives 2 CO2 and 3 H2O molecules, hence compound Z must be ethane.
CH3-CH3 + 3.5O2 --> 2CO2 + 3H2O
Ethane is obtained by reduction of ethene with Ni/H2. Hence, compound Y is ethene.
CH2=CH2 + H2 --> CH3-CH3
Ethene is obtained by adding conc.H2SO4 to ethanol.
CH3-CH2-OH --> CH3=CH2 + H2O
