An subject weights 400 gm. in air and occupies 100 cubic cm. What is its apparent weight in gm, if it is drowned in a liquid of density 1.2 gm./cubic cm. ?

Volume of substance = 100 cm3
Density of liquid = 1.2 g / cm3
Weight of displaced liquid = 1.2 × 100 = 120 g
Apparent weight = 400 - 120 = 280 g
