An unknown sample weighing 1.5 grams found to contain only Mn & S.

The sample was completely reacted with oxygen and it produced 1.22g of MnO & 1.38g of SO3.

wt of MnO = 1.22 gm & wt of SO3 = 1.38 gm
wt of manganese sulphide = 1.5 gm
Mn S + 2 O2 ----------------> Mn O + SO3
87gm ---------------------------= 71gm 80
so MnS : MnO : SO3
87 : 71 : 80
or 87/58 : 71/58 : 80/58
or 1.5 : 1.22 : 1.38
given 1.5 : 1.22 : 1.38
so the simplest formula for compound is Mn S ANSWER
