सरदार सरोवर बांध गुजरात के नवगाम के पास नर्मदा नदी पर बना एक गुरुत्व बांध है। यह बांध चार राज्यों गुजरात, मध्य प्रदेश, महाराष्ट्र और राजस्थान में पानी तथा बिजली की आपूर्ति करते है।

यह सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल की महत्त्वाकांक्षी परियोजना थी जिसकी संकल्पना को वर्ष 1960 के आसपास जवाहरलाल नेहरू द्वारा मूर्त रूप देने का प्रयास किया, लेकिन इस परियोजना हेतु कोई ठोस कदम नही उठाया जा सका।

वर्ष 1980 के आसपास विश्व बैंक की सहायता से इस परियोजना पर ज़मीनी कार्यवाही प्रारंभ की गई।

नर्मदा नदी दक्षिण-पश्चिम मालवा पठार के बाद एक लंबे गार्ज का निर्माण करती है। इस गार्ज का विस्तार गुजरात तक है जहाँ सरदार सरोवर बांध का निर्माण किया गया है।

बांध के लिये भूमि अधिग्रहण के बाद लोगों के विस्थापन की चिंता को लेकर नर्मदा बचाओ आंदोलन की भी शुरुआत हुई।
