Hii friend!!
Multi party system means existence of different political parties with different ideologies.
Advantages :
• The monarchy and inheritance polities of a single party can be checked through multi party system.
• The true choices of the people all over the country will be reflected as the coalitions include multi parties from several regions.
• The actual needs of the people will be included in the objectives of the political parties, like the objective of Janata Party to restore democratic values and the welfare programmes offered by TDP to strengthen this point.
• Unlike in the single party governments, the disputes between national and state governments can be eliminated as there will be friendly relations between the parties in the coalition from all the regions. Thus prevents the arbitrary ruling of a single party.
• Political stability can be brought by preventing disputes between State and Central governments like those happened in the form of dismissing State governments by Janata Pparty and Congress Party.
• Decentralisation of powers takes place and states get more powers to curtail the authorised rule of a single party in Central Government.
Thus, multi party policies prevent the streamrollung of a single party's agenda on the country.
Problems :
• Where there are many parties, the votes get divided and majority people opinion may not be represented in the formation of government. If 3 parties A,B,C contested in elections and candidate of A party got 30000 votes out of 1 lakh votes. B party got 28000 votes,C party got 35000 votes. So,majority votes are against C. By C is declared as winning candidate.
• Multiple party system often results in no party majority and it leads to formation of coalition governments. So,no party could pressure its agenda and has to tone down their approaches,
• The coalition government formed by multiple parties has to function as per the wishes of all the parties and so can not take strong decisions.
• There is policy paralysis.
• Every political party wants to dominate other parties and this leads to instability.
Hope this answer is enough!
Hope it helps!!! :)
