As a physical education teacher, you will instruct school-age children on the components and lifetime activities needed to stay fit, exercise and live healthfully. LIU Post’s redesigned 120-credit Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education will teach you how to develop and implement a standards-based developmentally appropriate physical activity program that enhances motor skills, physical fitness and the acquisition of movement-related knowledge. You will learn techniques to improve children’s motor development and fitness, and help them practice fundamental movement patterns, specialized skills, lifetime movement activities. Additionally, you will learn how to develop lessons and activities for students of various ages and differing ability levels.
Among others, courses cover curriculum design, skill development, student performance evaluations, human biology and anatomy and basic first aid. Students will have an opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom to field experience at local school districts. This program offers an excellent foundation in the liberal arts and sciences and prepares you for Initial Certification to teach Kindergarten through Grade 12.
