Explanation:

Out of the simplicity of Swami and Friends one may think that the text is just another school boy fiction. Set in a fictional place in South India called Malgudi after the colonization explores various aspects and conflicts which may or may not be truly universal but can definitely represent the larger issue prevalent in those times. These issues cannot be thought as restricted to this fictional place and is a story of a unified form of India. Though text is seen to be developed around the character of Swaminathan and his friends mainly in the school, the glimpses of the outside world through the eyes of these children are depicted. R. K. Narayan carefully weaves the major themes of post-colonization changes within India, the height of political turmoil and the incoherence within the nation together in this story of a few typical school boys who are ignorant and unaware of the much wider world around them.
