India is today a mature democracy. The country is made up of people from different religions, ethnic backgrounds and so on. Regional and local aspirations are quite naturally many and variegated. In view of this, India's states are ruled by different political parties, as diverse as parties from the extreme left of the political spectrum as those from the extreme right. Yet, the country carries on its forward march.
In the centre, the polity is a mixed one, with representation of most parties, national and regional. More often than not, the Government at the centre is formed as coalitions of several parties.
In view of the above, our politicians must begin to learn how to work collectively.
