Describe the different methods of Asexual reproduction.

{\red{\underline{\underline{\large{\mathtt{Answer:-}}}}}}

\bf\underline{Asexual\:Reproduction}

In Asexual reproduction an individual can reproduce on its own without the involvement of the individuals of the species.

Asexual reproduction can be done by various methods like:-

  1. Budding
  2. Fragmentation
  3. Spore formation
  4. Vegetative propagation

Let's know about these methodologies clearly.

\sf\green{Budding}

  • Yeast reproduce asexually through budding.
  • It produces an outgrowth called bud.
  • The nucleus is the yeast cell, also divides into 2 daughter nuclei.
  • Out of these, one nucleus remains in the parent cell while the other mouses to the bud.
  • Sometimes a chain of buds gets formed which results in production of number of yeast cells in a short period of time.
  • The bud may grow and gets detached from the parent cell.

\sf\green{Fragmentation}

  • Spirogyra reproduces as asexually by fragmentation.
  • Its filaments breaks up into two or more fragments.
  • These fragments grow and develop into new individual.

\sf\green{Spore\:Formation}

  • There are some plants which have special structures called Soprangia.
  • The spores are thick-walled, microscopic asexually reproducing bodies. They are carried by air.
  • These soprangia have spores in them.
  • They germinate when they find a suitable medium to grow.
  • Examples:- Moses & ferns.

\sf\green{Vegetative\:Propagation}

In vegetative propagation new plants are produced from the vegetative parts of plants like :- roots, stems or leaves.

  • The plants produced by this method take less time to grow.
  • They also bear flowers and fruits earlier than the plants produced from seeds.
  • The new plants are exact copies of the parent plant and have the same desirable characters as those of their parent plant.
  • Diseases may get transferred from parent plant to the new plant.

The various modes of asexual reproduction in plants are as follows:

(i)Vegetative propagation: It is the ability of a plant to produce new plants from roots, stems, leaves, and buds. Vegetative propagation is divided into two types.

• Natural vegetative propagation: This type of vegetative propagation occurs easily in nature and involves simple vegetative parts. Potato plant sprouting from an eye is a common example.

• Artificial vegetative propagation: This type of vegetative propagation is performed manually and generally occurs in laboratory conditions. The formation of a complete plant from a stem cutting of rose is a common example of this method.

(ii) Budding:It involves the formation of a new individual from a bulb-like projection called a bud. The bud grows and gets detached from the parent to form a new individual. It is commonly observed in yeast.

(iii)Fragmentation:It is a form of asexual reproduction where a new organism is formed the fragments of the parent body. It is the only mode of asexual reproduction in Spirogyra.

(iv)Spore formation:Many non-flowering plants reproduce through spore formation. Spores are tiny cells protected by a thick wall. Fungi such as bread moulds reproduce asexually using this method.
