Let the original resistance be R .

Resistance is directly proportional to length.

Hence when resistance is cut into three equal parts , the resistances will become one-third.

The resistances become R/3 .

Now R/3 resistances are connected in parallel.

Let the equivalent resistance be Re.

1/Re = 3/R + 3/R + 3/R

= > 1/Re = 3 × 3/R

= > 1/Re = 9/R

= > Re = R/9

ANSWER:

The resistance becomes one-ninth of the original .

we know that the resistance is given by rho l upon A

this implies that resistance is directly proportional to length

so when length is one third then resistance will be also one third
