Vedic literature is divided into two parts namely the Shruti and Smriti.It is believed that Shruti was revealed to the Sages by God and they passed on that knowledge orally from generation to generation.On the other hand,Smriti literature was composed by the Rishis.

  • The content of each veda are:-

Each Veda consist of four parts:- the Mantra-Samhitas or hymns, the Brahmans or explanations of Mantras or Rituals,the Aranyakas and the Upanishad.The division of vedas into four parts is to suit the four stages un a man's life.The Veda is divided into four great books: the Rig-veda, the Yajur-veda,the sama-veda and the Atharva-veda.
