Anita filled glass bottle with water and placed it in the freezer. After a few hours, she observed that the bottle had cracked. What could be the reason for this?

Answer:Non-tempered glass contains microscopic air bubbles that expand and contract as the glass is heated and cooled, especially at extreme temperatures like during canning and freezing. When those little air bubbles expand, they cause the glass to crack or even explode.

Explanation:Thus, if you put a glass bottle in the freezer, the level of the liquid will decrease as the temperature drops, until 4°C, at which point it starts to expand again. So unless the glass bottle is tremendously strong, as the water freezes, it expands. and pushes the glass container apart. And the water expands because since the density of ice is less than that of water, it's volume is large ( density and volume are inversely proportional ). Hence as the water freezes and becomes ice, it's volume increases thus it expands .
