Given : Anitha swims the length of 78 m pool in 24 s and makes the return trip to the starting position in 13 s.

To Find :  the magnitude of her average velocity for the return trip.

Solution:

Average Velocity =  Displacement  / Time

Anitha returns to same point hence Displacement  = 0

=> Average Velocity =  0 / (24 + 13)  = 0  m/s

Anitha swims the length of 78 m pool in 24 s

 and then 78 m in 13 s

Hence average speed = ( 78 + 78 ) / (24 + 13)   =  156 / 37  = 4.216 m/s
