Answer:

ans. 1

The ratio of the speed of light in different mediums is called refractive index or coefficient of refraction. It is a unit-less quantity and its constant or do not have any dimension.

The symbol of refraction coefficient is μ ( mu ) .

It is calculated by the formula :

μ = v₁ / v₂ [ velocity₁ / velocity₂ ]

or velocity in first medium / velocity in second medium.

μ = sin i₁ / sin r₁

Ans. 2

initial Distance between the pencil and mirror = 5 m.

Distance between the pencil and its image = ( 5 )2 = 10 m.

When the pencil is moved away from the mirror :

Distance between the pencil and mirror = 5 + 2 = 7 m

Distance between the pencil and its image = ( 7 )2 = 14 m

So, the distance between the image and the pencil is 14 m after moving it 2 m away.
