Anodizing

Explanation:

  • Anodizing is a type of finishing electrochemical process done to enhance the qualities of metals and alloys.
  • Anodizing is done by immersing a metal or alloy in a tank containing an electrolytic solution of aluminium to form a protective coating of hydrated aluminium oxide over it.
  • This is a toxic-free environment-friendly process .

Uses:

Anodizing process renders the metal or alloy to be:

  • Hard and durable
  • Corrosion-resistant
  • Abrasion-resistant
  • Will not peel or wear
  • Decorative finish and restores natural shine, lustre, colour, texture and look of the metal
  • Anodized metal structures are used in construction to provide durable escalators, lifts, lobbies, roofs, exteriors; and most widely used in satellites, space and communication devices, computer hardware and a number of consumer products.

Dear Student,

◆ Anodizing -

  • Electrochemical process in which an oxide layer is chemically built on the surface of anode is called anodizing.

● Applications of anodizing -

  • Anodizing helps to prevent metals from corrosion.
  • It used for coating of kitchen utensils.
  • It used for protection of aircraft materials.
  • It is also used for abrasion cobtrol and sand papers.

Thanks dear. Hope this helps you...
