Question:- The sum of the ages of mother and her daughter is 22 years. The daughter is 20 years younger than mother. Find the age of her daughter

Let the age of his mother be = x

And

let the age of his daughter be = y

ACCORDING TO THE QUESTION

x + y = 22 .... Equation ( i )

And

y = x - 20

Now, put value of y in Equation i

x + x - 20 = 22

=>

2x = 42

x = 22 years.

And



y = 1 years.

So, the age of his daughter is 1 year.

The sum of both the ages is 22 years.

The daughter is 20 years younger than her mother. So, the mother is 20 years older than her daughter.

Let the mother's age be x.

So, the daughter's age = x-20

Therefore,
$x + (x - 20) \: = \:22 \: years \\ = > x - 20 = 22 - x \\ = > - 20 = 22 - (x + x) \\ = > - 20 = 22 - 2x \\ = > 22 - 2x = - 20 \\ = > - 2x = - 20 - 22 \\ = > - 2x = - 42 \\ = > x = \frac{ - 42}{ - 2} \\ = > x = 21$

So, the mother's age is 21 years.

Therefore, the daughter's age = x-20=21-20=1

Therefore the daughter's age is 1 year.
