Clothes or books kept for a long time (at a place where air is humid) seem to absorb moisture. Can you tell why?

Here's your answer

Clothes or books are made up of dead plant cells. These have the ability to absorb water i.e. imbibe water.( This process is called imbibition) Thats why they seem to and do absorb moisture.

Hope it helps
