let the number that should be added to -6/11 to get 4/9 be x
then
x+(-6/11)=4/9
take -6/11 to right hand side
x=4/9 + 6/11
x=44+54/99
x=98/99

x + ( -  \frac{6}{11} ) =  \frac{4}{9}  \\ 11x - 6 =  \frac{11 \times 4}{9}  \\ 11x =  \frac{44}{9}  + 6 \\ 11x =  \frac{98}{9}   \\ x =  \frac{98}{99}
