Given equation, 3x^2 + 2kx - 3 = 0
Given that x = -1/2 is a solution of the given equation
That is, if we substitute the x value in the given equation, we must get zero.
3 * (1/2) * (1/2) + 2k (1/2) - 3 = 0
3/4 + k - 3 = 0
k = 3 - 3/4
k = 12/4 - 3/4
k = 9/4

Hope my answer helps you
