Cold water pipe fills it in 10 mins
In 1 min it fills: 1/10 part
Hot water pipe fills it in 15 mins
In 1 min, it fills : 1/15 part
Both pipes in 1 min fill: 1/10 + 1/15 = 3+2/30 = 1/6 parts
1 min == 1/6 parts
X mins = 1 part
X = 6 mins.
So both the pipes should have filled it in 6 mins.
But when the man came, due to waste pipe, the bath wasn't full.
After closing the waste pipe, the bath is filled in 4 mins.
1 min(both pipes fill)== 1/6 parts
4 mins=== 4*1/6 = 2/3 parts.
Hence when the man came== 1 - 2/3 = 1/3 part was only filled (due to waste pipe)
Let waste pipe empties 1 part in X min
In 1 min, it empties: 1/X part
1/3 = 6*(1/10 + 1/15) - 6*1/X.... [coz all the three was open for 6 mins]
1/3 = 1 - 6/X
6/X = 1 - 1/3 = 2/3
6/X = 2/3
X = 6*3/2 = 9 mins.
Hence, waste pipe can empty (alone) in 9 mins.
