In multiple choice tests you only have to recognise the correct answer, you do not have to provide it, so multiple tests examine passive knowledge. I cannot imagine how anyone who understands the material would get zero points. Even students who know nothing manage to score a point or two by sheer luck.
Sometimes a question or the suggested answers might be formulated ambiguously and the task might have no correct answer or two correct answers but that cannot be the case with all the questions.
If a student cannot score even one point at a multiple choice test, they certainly have no idea what it is all about and have no luck whatsoever. They should change their subject and never ever play games of luck.
