- For Sadao and his father, the American captive was an adversary, and Sadao knew very well that it would be a felony to provide the enemy with any kind of support and protection while the war was still going on.
- If it was found out the repercussions would be drastic and tragic, then the family could be charged as traitors and arrested for the offence, or even prosecuted.
- This thought has had an adverse effect on the household. Notwithstanding all this, when Sadao decided to provide the American prisoner with refuge in his home, all his servants left the house for fear of arrest
- Hana now began to feel burdened and was not happy with the course of action at all. They were forced to live in constant fear of being caught, and all these situations destroyed the peace and happiness in Sadao's home, causing the family great grief.
