The first Christmas, after Miss Sullivan came to Tuscumbia, was a great event for Helen. Helen was invited by the Tuscumbia school children to see their Christmas tree. Everyone in the family prepared surprises for Helen and she in turn prepared surprises for them. On the Christmas Eve, a beautiful tree stood in the center of the school room. It was ablaze and shimmering in the soft light and its branches were loaded with strange, wonderful fruits. It was a moment of supreme happiness for Helen. She danced and capered around the tree in an ecstasy. When she learns that there was a gift for each child, she was delighted. Her impatience for the real Christmas to begin almost got beyond control. She could not sleep that night but pretended to sleep and waited for Santa Clause

Helen Keller was a great woman who was born on June 27, 1880 in Tuscumbia a little town of Northern Alabama. When she was still a child, she fell ill and lost her sight as well as hearing. The world outside became dark and silent. Initially, she used to have fits of temper when she realized she was different from others but gradually adjusted herself in a positive way to the life which fate had chosen for her. Her teacher, Miss Sullivan helped her a lot in this.
She had a sportsman spirit and never felt defeated. She loved nature and wanted to be with the trees, animals, birds, flowers, bushes, etc. Despite her physical disabilities, she learns how to climb trees, swimming, tuggnagging, etc.
Helen was a girl who liked the company of others. She never felt shy of herself. She used to greet the guests when they visited their parents. She went to celebrate Christmas with Tuscumbia school children and exchanged gifts with them.
She loved fragrances. Whenever she was free, she used to go out into the orchards and gardens to enjoy the fragrances of persimmons, lilies, jasmines, ripe peaches, etc.
In short, we can say that Helen was an optimistic lady who never let her disabilities come in the path of her progressing life. Life to her was a teacher and she learns many things from it.

Anne’s father, Otto was a practical and kind man. Anne had a peculiar kinship to him. He was born on May 12, 1889, into a wealthy Frankfurt family. He was a loving and caring father whom everyone respected. He made his living by selling chemical products and provisions until the family was forced into hiding in 1942. The moment he received a call-up notice, he started making preparation for a secret hiding after discussing it with a few people. He always planned well before jumping into a situation. Shifting to the secret annex is a good example of his plan. He took a quick action and promptly followed it. Before leaving, he even left a note for his landlord to take good care of their cat, Moortje, which they were leaving behind. Like any other father, he loved his daughters too much and wanted to give them good education. He sent Margot to a public school and Anne to a Montessori school in 1934. He somehow managed to get books for his daughters as he wanted them to study and have good knowledge of the world around them. When they were in hiding, Otto was the only member of the family who survived the war and lived until 1980.

As a thirteen year old girl Anne felt that all her friends and family misunderstood her. Thus, she turned to the diary as a new friend and confidant, counting on the diary to be sympathetic with non-judgmental ear that couldn’t be found elsewhere. After the Frank family shifted to the annex, Anne felt even more misunderstood. She thought her mother to be cold and callous, and also felt that the other adults considered her a nuisance. The diary offered Anne much solace in the annex because she was in need of a true companionship. Until she be-friend Peter, Anne had no one other than her diary with whom she could openly share her fear, anger, sadness, and hope. Anne called the diary “Kitty.” She considered it a close friend. She hoped that Sheldon be able to confide everything to it. Anne frequently turned to her diary for comfort and support because she never wanted to burden the already overtaxed adults with her own concerns. Thus, Anne felt that paper has more patience than people.
