1.A circuit must be complete for the switch to be "on" if there is any break or open spot, it is an "open circuit".

Open circuit are not complete. therefore, electricity doesn't flow.

2.Nichrome due to its high resistivity does not allow the electric energy easily to pass through it. This electrical energy is changed into heat energy. So nichrome wire gets heated in an electric circuit.
