According to condition,
x + 5 = 3 (y+5)
x + 5 = 3y +15
x - 3y = 10 ----------------we got our first
equation
Five years ago,
Jacob's age = x - 5
Son's age = y - 5
According to condition,
x - 5 = 7 (y - 5)
x - 5 = 7y - 35
x - 7y = -30 -------------------------we got our
second equation
x - 3y = 10 ---- eq 1
x - 7y = -30 ---- eq 2
We can write eq 1 as
x = 10 + 3y
Now, substituting x = 10 + 3y in eq 2,
10 + 3y -7y = -30
40 = 7y - 3y
40 = 4y
40/4 = y
10 = y
So, we get y = 10
Now, putting this value of y in eq 2 ,
[we can put this value of y in any of the two
equations to get the value of x]
x - 7(10) = -30
x = 70 - 30
x = 40
Therefore, we got x = 40 and y = 10
So, the present age of Jacob = 40 years and
that of his son = 10 years

Hey... I think this can be ur answer dear!!
Let the age of Jacob be x and that of his son be y....
SO, according to the question,
Five years hence,
x+5=3(y+5)
x+5=3y+15
x=3y+10 _(1)
Now,five years ago,
x-5 = 7(y-5)
x-5=7y-35
x = 7y - 30... (2)
Now comparing (1) & (2),
3y +10 = 7y-30
30 +10 = 7y - 3y
4y=40
y=10 years - age of Jacob's son
x=3(10)+10 = 40 years - age of Jacob....
Hope it helps you dear ☺️☺️
