Question :-

The given figure represents a rectangular lawn of length 12m and breadth 6m with a circular flower bed of radius 2m. Find :

(i) The area of the flower bed

(ii) The circumference of the flower bed

(iii) The area of the lawn

(iv) The area of the lawn excluding the flower bed

Given :-

  • The length of the lawn = 12m
  • The breadth of the lawn = 6m
  • The radius of the flower bed = 2m

Answers :-

1. The area of the flower bed

Since the flower bed is circular, the formula to use is :-

Area of circle = \pi r^{2} (r being the radius)

Substituting the value,

Area :-

=> \dfrac{22}{7} \times (2)^{2}

=> \dfrac{22}{7} \times 4

=> \dfrac{88}{7}m^{2}

2. The circumference of the flower bed

The formula to use :-

Circumference of circle = 2\pi r

Substituting the values,

Circumference :-

=> 2 \times\dfrac{22}{7} \times 2

=> \dfrac{88}{7} m^{2}

3. The area of the lawn

The lawn is rectangular in shape of rectangle.

Hence,

Area of lawn = Length × Breadth

Area :-

=> 12 × 6

=> 72m²

4. The area of the lawn excluding the flower bed

The area of the lawn excluding the flower bed is :-

=> 72 - \dfrac{88}{7}

=> \dfrac{504-88}{7}

=> \dfrac{416}{7} m^{2}

Hope it helps!

Happy day!
