Answer:

The mid day meal scheme has helped reduce caste prejudice as

  • The scheme envisages a system in which all children, regardless of caste, would sit together and eat the same food prepared by the same cook.
  • It was hoped that such a system would engender feelings of brotherhood and break down caste barriers.
  • This would remove the inequality in out community.
  • Government provided equal right to all children to avail this facility, abolishing inequality.
  • It also works as an incentive for poor children and their parents to come to school.
  • In this way, it helps to literate the population of the country.

Hey there,

Here's the answer to your question:

Caste prejudices have been persistent throughout time and memorial in India. One key tool in order to reduce this, was the Midday Meal Scheme (MMS) implemented out by the Government of India. It was first started out in a school in Tamil Nadu which provided a sort of a basis for the Supreme Court to implement this in all state run schools.

Following are the benefits of the scheme:

a) It helps in increasing the nutritional and health status of the students as well as Net Attendance Ratio (The amount of children that attend schools). Earlier, children belonging to certain Scheduled Castes were limited to the benefits of schooling, but the MMS has enabled parents to send their children to school more often.

b) It helps in abolishing inequality from country as both, rich and non-rich children attending school can sit down together and participate in the meal.

c) The MMS also increases employment in the country by providing jobs to people who earlier didn't have any. Many people from the dalit community, especially women weren't allowed to work, but now they have better opportunities as they can cook food as well as act as volunteers in distributing it, washing crockeries, and so on.

d) Poor people who unable to feed their children at home now have the added advantages of feeding, as well as educating their children.

e) It also prevents people from interrupting their work who would need to come back from their workplaces in the afternoon to provide food to their kids. With the MMS, this helps them to continue their work.

Hope it helps.

Have a great day! ;)
