Modelling means creating a physical replica or equations of a situation or activity. Quite often architecture construct a small size model of a building to be constructed to show the clients how it would look like and any suggestion the clients want to give. Similarly a physical real life situation can be modeled by a differential equation. For example a simple harmonic motion is represented by a second order equation y" + ay = 0. The motion depends on the boundary conditions and parameter a. Simulation is a process where you show virtually ( you create virtual scenes ) how a real physical situation would happen. For example, architecture show you walk through of a big building, showing how lift would work, how rooms will behave in different lighting and so on. Simulation is very important to check what would happen if something goes wrong. This helps to improve the behavior of the physical situation. For example, a chemical reaction is normally simulated before it is actually performed to see the effects. A mathematical model of a physical situation is solved to see the effects of different parameters.
