Let sum with A is Rs. A

Sum with B is Rs. B

A + 100 = 75% of (B - 100)

A + 100 = 3/4 (B - 100)

A + 100 = 3B/4 - 75

A + 175 = 3B/4

4/3A + 700/3 = B --------------(1)

A - 100 = 40% of (B + 100)

A - 100 = 2B/5 + 40

A - 140 = 2B/5

5A/2 - 700/2 = B ----------(2)

Equating 1 and 2

4A/3 + 700/3 = 5A/2 - 700/2

Cross multiplying the denominators

8A + 1400 = 15A - 2100

7A = 3500

A = 3500/7

A = 500

Putting the value of A in equation (2),

B = 5A/2 - 700/2

B = 2500/2 - 700/2

B = 1800/2

B = 900

Sum of money they have with them is A = 500 and B = 900
