1st. The reasons that led to subsistence crisis are (i) The population of France rose from about 23 million in 1715 to 28 million in 1789 which led to a rapid increase in the demand for food grains. (ii) Production of grains could not keep pace with the increasing demand.

2nd. France in the 18th century had many revolutionary thinkers. Among them were Voltaire, Rousseau, Montesquieu and Diderot. Their revolutionary ideas encouraged people to fight for their rights. They exposed the inefficiency of the monarch and his government and aroused the people to challenge authority

3rd. Some privileges enjoyed by the clergy and nobility are: They are not liable to pay taxes to the government. Third estate or the peasants provide services to them. They collect tax and levies from the third estate parties that is, the peasants for tithes.

4th. The French Revolution. Mention the events that led to decline of Bastille. ... (i)As the National Assembly was busy at Versailles drafting a constitution, the rest of France seethed with turmoil. A severe winter led to bad harvest, the price of bread rose and bakers exploited the situation and hoarded supplies.

5th. Finding themselves locked out of their usual meeting hall at Versailles on June 20 and thinking that the king was forcing them to disband, they moved to a nearby indoor tennis court (salle du jeu de paume). There they took an oath never to separate until a written constitution had been established for France.
