- The estimated height of the stratosphere is 50km above the surface of the earth.
- No clouds are seen in the stratosphere. Dust particles and water vapour are also negligible.
- The stratosphere contains ozone which absorbs the harmful ultraviolet radiation of the sun.
- The uppermost layer of the stratosphere is called as stratopause .

- The thermosphere lies above the mesosphere. It extends up to a height of 400km above the sea level.
- In this layer, the temperature begins to increase rapidly with increase in altitude. It reaches more than 1,500°C.

Question:-
- Explain the layers of the Earth with the help of a diagram.
Answer:-
- There are three layers of the earth :-
- Crust
- Mantle
- Core
- The crust is the topmost layer of the earth.
- It is also called as lithosphere.
- It is the thinnest layer of the earth. The upper part of the crust is called as continental Crust [average thickness 35km] and the lower is called as oceanic crust [ average thickness 5km]
- The mantle is the middle layer of the earth.
- It is also called as mesosphere.
- It lies just below the crust, it is 2,900km thick.
- The core is innermost layer and lies at the center of the earth.
- It is also called as barysphere.
- The average thickness of the core is about 3,500 km.
